reFocus

6 months of 1-to-1 sessions focusing on your particular needs

Introduction to reFocus:

You will know from having studied the description of the reCover programme that I am a great fan of group-based programmes due to the community and accountability they provide.

However, there are also unique benefits to a one-to-one approach, which is why I still offer a few select spaces for this type of programme.

Although the recovery from chronic long-term conditions usually has a typical progression, which is used as the basis for the structured programme of the group offerings, there may still be factors that could be addressed differently when the focus is on your particular situation.

Suppose you are an athlete for whom health is crucial to your livelihood.

In that case, individual considerations will be many, and this programme will allow us to regularly measure progress through various biomarkers, both general and sports-specific.

In fact, this programme is inspired by the service I used to deliver for top-level professional golfers as the clinical director for ProGolf Health.

A busy corporate lifestyle often has many similarities to that of an athlete, and the individual adaptations this model of care allows suit them both.

Furthermore, in a one-to-one programme, we can accommodate your particular time restrictions and plan each meeting to fit your diary and other commitments.

Tests and regimes, which are usually elective and charged separately, are included in this programme and will be applied at intervals and with a frequency that allows the most efficient monitoring of progress.

  • You are likely in a position where problem-solving is part of your everyday routine.  But when your health is the problem, it quickly becomes the only one to solve, and frustratingly, you rarely have the skills or tools to do so yourself.

  • You can cope without it for a while, but health is the ultimate wealth, and when you lose it, it becomes the one thing you strive for.

  • reFocus is the fully individualised concierge service to bring back your health, then return your wellbeing, and that brings you back to the top of your game.  It will make you the CEO of your health, including the process of restoring it.   All the groundwork is done for you. You just need to make decisions for implementation and execution.

Is reFocus a fit for you?

This is my one-on-one offering to help you regain control of your health and free yourself from recurring symptoms or a distinct diagnosis.

You do not need a formal diagnosis to use this service.

The fact that you know you could do so much better by gaining control of recurring symptoms is sufficient to make this suitable for you:

This approach doesn’t work towards settling specific symptoms or reversing illness as such; by optimising the way your body works, protects, and fends for itself, these will be secondary gains.

Chronic disease is when your body struggles to deal with what made you ill in the first place.

  • Your ailing health is dictating your routines and what you can do, and playing pretend is in itself exhausting.

  • You spend far too much time each day assessing the severity of your symptoms in the hope of seeing a positive trend towards improvement.

  • You have seen enough doctors to know what it isn’t, but you also know yourself that this isn’t the way you see yourself spending the rest of your life.

  • And yet, tests seem to show you are either ‘within normal ranges’ or ‘about the same’.

  • Even if you have a diagnosis, treatments don’t seem to make enough of a difference and certainly haven’t offered a cure.  You may even be taking tablets to counter the side-effects of the pills…

More Details

The reFocus is based on 4-month periods, which can either be run separately or continuously with distinct targets and re-tests to ensure progress is made.

If you decide to run a 4-month period of the programme separately, it will include two batches of extensive biomarker testing to determine your progress and the areas you should continue to work on.

My preferred way to run this programme is to run three periods in succession.  This will still include testing at the end of every 4-month period, but will allow for better progression of the programme and, from experience, will give you faster results.

At the beginning of the programme, we determine your specific areas of focus, laying out a clear path from illness to health to wellbeing.

There is no way of knowing the exact timeframe for your recovery, but setting aside and committing to an extended period is the best way to ‘reFocus’ from managing symptoms and day-to-day life to a plan that gets you truly better.

The structure of the programme means we can adjust the programme focus and length when we understand your particular issues and the steps needed for their resolution.

If you are an athlete or have particularly busy periods in your corporate calendar, we can run the programme to fit your ‘season’ to make sure the progress made is continued and maintained.

We will provide practical, realistic advice you can implement right away, followed by a succession of steps towards restoring energy and resilience for daily life.

To this end, a graphical representation of your needs and the order they need to be addressed will form the basis for the decisions you make for implementation.

How does it work?

It starts before we meet.

First, I would like to examine your past and present symptoms.  This is done to identify patterns and identify the root cause/s of your current issues.

To do this, you complete our online assessment tool, the Comprehensive Health Evaluation Questionnaire (the CHEQ).

The CHEQ presents the results in a graphical format, making it easier to understand your symptoms and history and see the patterns hiding within.

This includes a decision on any further testing you may need.

First Consultation

After completing the CHEQ, we will meet for the first consultation to review the results and decide on the focus for the first few stages of your reFocus programme.

This is your starting point, and you do not commit to the rest of the programme until after this consultation.

We will review your CHEQ report (see below) and any test results you may have had in the past or as a result of my recommendations.

This will either confirm the suitability of the reFocus programme for you or lead to other recommendations.

You will be given a structured timeline of priorities for your recovery.

Testing

The cost of testing is included in this programme, allowing me to make such decisions freely and easily if and when they become relevant.

Tests, when indicated, can help ensure we target the correct issues and that you start feeling better as quickly as possible.

Initially, the right tests help the decision-making in your particular case, and in the longer term, they may be used to monitor progress.

We can perform or repeat tests at any phase of your programme, but typically they will form the basis for the re-evaluations during the programme.

Previous Tests

All testing and its interpretation are included in the reFocus programme.

Once your test results are in, we combine them with the CHEQ's insights to create your roadmap.

Personalised Plans and Supplement Programmes

The focus is always on ensuring you understand how all this impacts your body and how we address the contributing factors in a particular order to benefit your health.

I am very aware that the true candidates for the reFocus programme have little energy or inclination towards being educated on the intricacies of why they don’t feel well and the physiology and biochemistry of how we will make a difference.

In the past, I have been guilty of spending too much time explaining and too little time making it make sense. The reFocus is all about the latter and about achieving results.

It's not about impressing you with lots of information, but about giving you LESS. We will concentrate on the most important information and then simplify it into the most digestible form, and the action steps to take on that background.

Once we have decided on the best programme for you, I will develop personalised health plans and supplement programmes.  Your journey to optimal health is uniquely tailored to your needs and goals.

I have secured at least a 10% discount on supplements and herbal remedies from most suppliers, which I pass on to you.

The Roadmap

You will have a graphical illustration of the expected stages of your care for each 4-month period, so you know which areas of your health we are addressing and in what order.

It allows you to recognise how and when you progress through the programme, and we will reference this often in our calls and further decisions.

The CHEQ & BSS assessments

The Comprehensive Health Evaluation Questionnaire (CHEQ) has been developed specifically to identify patterns and clues in your medical history and current symptoms, helping us determine the initial steps in your management and the need for any further tests or assessments.

The CHEQ also incorporates the Body Stress Score (BSS), which generates a report on your current health and wellbeing.  It generates an overall score along with individual scores for each area essential for optimal human function.

Doing a BSS at a later stage gives a reliable indication of overall and more specific progress in the areas addressed in your particular programme.

As a reCover member, you can do a BSS assessment at any time.

I usually recommend doing so every 2 to 3 months to monitor progress and get a sense of your current best focus.

The ‘Body Stress Score’ is available to everyone and costs £40.

The CHEQ is only available by invitation, as it needs a consultation for the correct application of the information and patterns discovered.

The OMPHF resources

A Dashboard of Resources:

A private portal will give you complimentary access to all the ‘OMPHF’ resources

They are designed and structured around the topics covered in the group sessions.

It is an ever-growing list of guides, protocols, meal plans, recipes, and recordings of any Q&A sessions.

There are also recorded mini-training modules exploring specific areas of health.

These modules are designed to help you understand how your body works and how changes can impact it, making lasting changes more likely.

Importantly, you don’t need to digest all this information to get better.  We will carefully decide which ones are relevant to your journey to achieve more ‘OMPHF’ (optimal physiological and metabolic human function) in your life.

OMPHF stands for ‘Optimal Physiological & Metabolic Human Function’.  This is what we strive for for you.

The weekly email

If you are on the general email list for this site, you will receive an email on Fridays on a topic relevant to general health and wellbeing.

This is part of the reGroup programme, and you may find it helpful to attend those sessions too.

At the moment, these are reserved for ‘Busy Men in Their Best Age’, but should you fall outside this niche, you will be pleased to hear that other such groups are planned for the future.

The bi-weekly sessions

We will have an online consultation every two weeks to assess your progress.

Based on this, we constantly evaluate the suitability of your programme for your health goals and adjust the roadmap accordingly, if necessary.

Private WhatsApp Chat:

Monday through Thursday, 9 am-5 pm, you will also have access to a private WhatsApp chat for support and questions.

Personalised Plans:

As mentioned above, each consultation adjusts your bespoke planned handouts and protocols are supplied covering nutrition, lifestyle, nutraceuticals and supplements needed for the next stage.

I can also provide letters to doctors and other practitioners as required to consolidate and coordinate your care.

Case Work:

I review and assess your case between each consultation to ensure we continue building bespoke plans for your needs.

This includes reviewing the latest scientific research, examining drug-nutrient interactions, and assessing supplement safety.

Example Topics:

  • The omphf mindset

  • Whole food nutrition and the initial ‘Clean Approach’

  • Inflammation - Why do I keep talking about it, and how can we control it?

  • Nervous system regulation, Stress-reduction, & Self-care

  • Why dieting for weight loss could be wrong for someone in your position

  • Detoxification - what does it mean and when should you be doing it?  Likely, it isn’t a priority early on.

  • Sleep & Rest - and how to achieve it.

  • Exercise & Movement - what is good and why are some types bad initially?

  • Natural anti-inflammatory strategies

  • Supplements both the foundational ones and some for specific benefits.

  • The principle of ‘Root-causes’ of dis-ease and illnesses.

Priority access to events

As a reFocus member, you will get early notification of webinars and events and be able to access them free of charge.

These events can provide deeper insights into topics which confuse.  This may be due to complex mechanisms that govern their operation in general and specifically for you, or because influencer trends have generated more confusion than clarity.

I will clarify these issues and empower you to make sensible, informed decisions.

Other examples could include longer events with a theme, such as the best exercise strategies for general health rather than training for a specific event or occasion.

Yet further options could be online courses that you can study in your own time

Frequently asked questions:

  1. What are the benefits of a hybrid programme rather than just having a consultation from time to time?

    • Apart from the benefits of progressing in a group - as explained below - the other benefits to a hybrid programme are:

      • There are many similarities in the presentation and, therefore, also the recovery process in chronic health conditions, even if they may have different names or diagnoses.

        • This stems from these conditions usually having common origins such as 'chronic inflammation'.

        • Understanding the principles of such processes is central to recovery for conditions as varied as thyroid issues, arthritis, and digestive issues.

      • A regular programme ensures steady progress

        • If you consult a practitioner only when the level of discomfort has become significant enough to do so, you usually won't allow yourself to progress towards overall better health.

        • By knowing the current focus and the ones that follow will allow you to truly moving forward and recognising the benefit of you work and investment of resources.

      • Sharing this journey with others reduces the cost of the process.

        • My time is shared between several clients who all benefit and you have more resources to spend on individual considerations such as specific testing and supplementation .

  2. I prefer working on this by myself.  Why would I want to join a group?

    • This programme is designed for individuals facing ongoing health issues.  This is often a lonely place to be.

    • Sharing your experiences and realising they - and you - are not just 'weird', gives confidence towards taking on a process of recovery

    • Committing to actions and changes in a room of peers is much more likely to be followed through on and, therefore, increases the likelihood of success for the whole process.

    • I do offer a one-to-one programme (reFocus) as some people are unable to commit to the regular schedule of reCover.

  3. Why would I want to have a health assessment?

    • The Comprehensive Health Evaluation Questionnaire (CHEQ) is an amazing tool to help determine the patterns within your medical history and current symptoms.  It results in recommendations for your particular programme and any further testing to be advised for further insights.

    • It gives a clear indication of how compromised the systems in your body are and has often been described as lending credibility to what a client has reported for years.

    • This tool is usually only used the once in the process and will be folowed up by the BSS - se below - to assess progress.

    • The 'Body Stress Score' (BSS) is an online tool that allows you to identify which systems of your body are currently stressed.

    • It provides you with an overall score, which you want to see decrease as you progress with initiatives to improve your overall health and wellbeing.

    • It also provides a 'score' for each body system and some stress patterns.  This allows you to determine which initiatives will yield the greatest benefit—and what you can safely ignore among the myriad information and advice available.

  4. This information is available everywhere these days.  Why would I want it from you?

    • There is indeed no shortage of ways to gain access to health and wellbeing information.  But that is often part of the problem.

      • We don't need the information; we need to understand how it may be relevant to our particular situation.

      • 'Dr Google' and various AI chatbots are excellent at answering specific questions.  However, forming strategies that are relevant and make sense to you is beyond them—at least for now.

    • I am a man of a certain age and with experiences well-suited for a mentoring role in these areas.  It would be a privilege to help you make sense of the available information and select the content that resonates with you and your needs.

  5. What are the differences between the reGroup, the reCover, and the reFocus?

    • reGroup

      • This programme focuses on optimising wellbeing in groups of like-minded individuals with similar life experiences.

      • The focus is on improving the pillars of good health and giving strong rationales for why and how this is done.

      • Combined with the BSS health evaluation, you will know which particular areas you ned to focus on for the best outcome.

      • This is a link to the page explaining this programme in more detail

    • reCover

      • This group-based programme is aimed at individuals with persistent symptoms or distinct diagnoses.

      • Persistent ill-health is a very frustrating background to daily life. It often ends up defining choices and routines that then directly interfere with that individual's goals and hopes for living the best life possible.

      • The strategies needed for escaping from this hold are similar for most conditions and individuals.  This is why a group format lends itself well to allow progress without the usual prohibitive costs.

      • The individual's needs are addressed in an initial consultation and in subsequent regular consultations, where decisions are made regarding specific testing and supplementation.

      • This is a link to the page explaining this programme in more detail

    • reFocus

      • As the above hopefully illustrates, this is a one-to-one concierge programme aimed at individuals with persistent symptoms or distinct diagnoses.

  6. Why is the reGroup only for busy men in their ‘best age’?

    • This is the initial 'niche' for this programme.

    • Once the format is firmly established and other groups have shown interest, we will open this programme up for other such 'niches'.

    • Do feel free to suggest your own niche for consideration.
